Announcing our new name: Horizon Christian Program
As you are aware, over the past several months, the TMS Program at DA Ferguson Middle School and WR Myers High School has been exploring a program name change. We have met with students and parents to discuss why we are looking at this name change, invited suggestions from our program community, and had students and parents vote on preferred name options.
Based on what parents and students had said and voted on, our board looked at three important things that make up our eventual program name.
- The eventual name should represent our faith and the values that are important to the families in our program
- The eventual name should represent all the Southern Alberta communities that make up our program as part of Horizon School Division
- The eventual name should represent our existence as a special part of DA Ferguson and WR Myers School, without using the word school
Taking all of these into consideration, we are excited to announce that the name selected for the TMS program by our school board is:
Horizon Christian Program
This name meets all three things that came out from our meetings and votes with parents.
- Horizon represents the reality that our program serves Taber, but also many other communities in our division. It makes it clear that any students and families that share our beliefs and values are welcome in our program, whether they live in Taber, Barnwell, Chin, Grassy Lake, or many of the other communities in our division.
- Christian recognizes the importance of our faith and makes it clear that this is the focus of our program
- Program represents the fact that we exist as part of DAF and WR Myers, but serve a specific purpose for our families and community.
